The Board of Directors for Affinity Community Services announces the resignation of Latonya Maley as Executive Director.
Latonya Maley has served as Executive Director for one and half years and leaves with significant accomplishments contributing to the legacy of the organization's mission focusing Black LGBTQ people, particularly women. Latonya’s last day with Affinity will be March 29, 2024.
“I am lucky to now count myself among those who have contributed to shaping the ongoing legacy of this organization. I am grateful for the many ways my time here has evolved my practice and priorities as a social justice and non-profit leader.” -Latonya Maley
During Latonya's tenure at Affinity, Latonya managed the office reopening for in-person programs after COVID-19 , which led to an increase programming, participation and volunteers including expanding Affinity’s programmatic offerings to engage a higher number of women, transgender, and non-binary people under the age of 40. Latonya also worked to continue and expand the number of participants in Affinity’s Holistic Living Mental Wellness Program and provided invaluable assistance with the planning of Burning Bowl.
“In the tricky post pandemic period, LaTonya has been instrumental in increasing the engagement of our under 40 year old members by energizing two new peer groups and supporting intergenerational programing”
- Phyllis Johnson, Affinity Community Services Board Member
The Board of Directors wishes LaTonya well in future endeavors and looks forward to releasing the organization’s new strategic vision, developed with the support of community participants and volunteers at Burning Bowl. Burning Bowl is an opportunity for collective reflection and goal-setting within the Black LGBTQ community and will take place on March 17th from 1pm-5pm at Studio Imani located at 5917 S State St, Chicago, IL 60621.
